Marisi La Jolla
Experience thoughtful, vibrant acoustic design inspired by the colors and architecture of the Amalfi Coast
Marisi La Jolla
Located in the heart of downtown La Jolla, California, the new Italian restaurant Marisi, designed by Encinitas Design Group, draws inspiration from not only the cuisine of Italy's Amalfi Coast but also the playful color and texture palette of the region’s architecture. The restaurant's main indoor dining area features multiple seating options and a bar with gray granite and marble tabletops and counters.
The Challenge
Although strikingly beautiful and easy to clean, these modern, hard finishes throughout the dining area, combined with the noise of the bar and neighboring guests, are not sound absorbent and can create a loud and noisy environment. If patrons have a hard time hearing each other, it can damper their dining experience.
“It is so important to make sure there are enough acoustic products for the size of the space when you are early in the design process. One huge mistake I often see is people just not putting enough material in, and expecting a minimal amount of acoustic products to lift too heavy of an acoustic load.” -Michael DiTullo, head of product innovation for Carnegie Acoustic Solutions
The Solution
With over 35 years of design expertise in creating contemporary hospitality environments, Encinitas Design Group understands the importance of acoustics in hospitality environments. To minimize noise disruptions, the team installed Kirei’s PET Panels on the ceiling in Sunshine Yellow.
The Result
The ceiling panels – made from 60 percent post-consumer recycled content – soak up excess sound reverberation and lower the overall noise levels within the dining area, allowing guests to enjoy their meals and conversations comfortably and peacefully. Plus, the bright yellow design perfectly complements the Amalfi-inspired interior for a stunning atmosphere that’s as sonically pleasing as it is visually.
